GY-FR-OP41 Flammability Test Report on PP

Description

GY-FR-OP41 Flammability Test Report on PP

Division: GYC Division for FR & Functional Materials

Purpose: Adding GY‐FR‐OP41 halogen‐free synthetic flame retardant into PP to observe and evaluate its flame retardant performance; further to improve the comprehensive flame retardancy of traditional PP and to increase the product value.

Method: Conducted in accordance with UL94 vertical burning test V0

The specimens were supplied by the client.

The size of specimens in average:

Length: 105 mm
Width: 14 mm
Thickness: 2 mm

Formula: With 0% and 25% of GY-FR-OP41 flame retardant

Condition:

Sampled two specimens: Burned the blank specimen for 10 seconds and removed the flame. The cotton indicator was ignited by the dripping molten pieces.

Sampled three specimens:

Burned the specimens which 25% of flame retardant were contained. Removed the burner flame after burning the specimens for 10 seconds.

The afterflame time is shown as follows.

Sample 1 Sample 2 Sample 3
Afterflame time for each individual specimen 0 sec 2 sec 0 sec
Cotton indicator ignited by flaming particles or drops NO NO NO
Afterflame of any specimen up to the holding clamp NO NO NO

Conclusion:

  1. GO YEN CHEMICAL INDUSTRIAL CO., LTD. (GYC GROUP) is a leading and the only manufacturer of flame retardant in Taiwan. We have nearly 40 years of experience developing functional additives and providing a series of FR solutions for general plastic and engineering plastic industry.
  2. Polypropylene (PP) is a non-crystalline thermoplastic. Due to its comprehensive properties (chemical resistance, rigidity, electrical properties, environmental protection, processing behavior, high tensile strength, etc.), PP materials can be widely used in various industries and livelihood products; however, most polymer materials are flammable, and so is PP. Therefore, when PP needs to be used for appliances, electronics, aerospace or other industrial products, they must be modified to fire-retardant products and make sure the safety and value of use.
  3. The test indicates that the blank test specimens were highly flammable as shown in Picture 1. Different flame retardant performance was displayed with different loadings of flame retardant.
  4. GY-FR-OP Series are halogen-free and eco-friendly flame retardants that have the largest production volume in GYC Group and are used in a wide range of application areas and industries. When 25% of GY-FR-OP41 eco-friendly flame retardant is added into the 2 mm thick PP plastic, the three specimens drawn randomly achieve the classification UL94-V0 after the vertical burning test.
