GY-FR-OP31 Flammability Test Report on PE Foam Material
The test indicates that the LOI of PE foam materials obviously increased when GY-FR-OP31 is added, suggesting that the flame retardancy substantially improved. In UL94 test, the specimens reached HF-1 standard when the adding rate came to 30% and 35%.
Description
I. Division: GYC Division for FR & Functional Materials
II. Purpose: Adding GY‐FR‐OP31 halogen‐free flame retardant into PE foam material to observe and evaluate its flame retardant performance.
III. Method: Conducted in accordance with UL94 vertical burning test
Formula: With 0%, 25%, 30%, and 35% of GY-FR-OP31 flame retardant
IV. Result:
Sample A | Sample B | Sample C | Sample D | |
Dosage | Blank | 25% | 30% | 35% |
UL-94 | burned | HF-2 | HF-1 | HF-1 |
LOI | 17.1 | 26 | 29 | 33 |
IV. Conclusion:
- GO YEN CHEMICAL INDUSTRIAL CO., LTD. (GYC GROUP) is a leading and the only manufacturer of flame retardant in Taiwan. We have nearly 40 years of experience developing functional additives and providing a series of FR solutions.
- Polyethylene (PE) has a low LOI (17.4) and is highly inflammable. When it is made into foam material, PE shows a lower LOI (17.1) due to the pores in the material, which makes PE even more flammable and causes danger to personnel. Hence, adding flame retardant during PE foam processing is required to increase its LOI and make the material non-flammable. Halogenated-flame retardant is mostly used in PE foam materials; however, as the environmental awareness gains ground, the needs of non-halogenated flame retardant is increasing these days. GY-FR-OP31, developed by GYC GROUP, is a new type of eco-friendly flame retardant that is highly ideal for PE foam materials.
