GY-FR-OP74 Flammability Test Report on Nylon 66/Glass Fiber Composites

Description

Intro:
Nylon is a synthetics polymer composed of Polyamide which has excellent machinability.
It has various advantages like great abrasion and wear resistance, tensile strength, impact strength.
It’s been widely applied in car and electronic components, equipment, filament, power cable and consumer goods. The common types in the market are Nylon6, Nylon 66, Nylon 6.10 and Nylon 6.12.
Nylon are usually reinforced by glass fiber for increasing physical properties. However, the disadvantage of Glass Fiber /Nylon composites is that improve the effect of heat conduction which is addressed as the “Candlewick Effect”. That effect accelerates flow of melted Nylon along the glass fibers surface to the flame zone through capillary action.
In order to improve the limitations on applications in the market, it is evitable adding flame retardant. GY-FR-OP74 developed by GYC group can enhance the flame retardant performance on Nylon.

Testing purpose: Adding 13-15% of flame retardant GY-FR-OP74 into Nylon/glass fiber composites to observe the performance examining by UL-94 test as following.

Test result:

Method: UL-94 Vertical test

Nylon 66 + 30% Glass Fiber
GY-FR-OP74

Adding Rate

0% 13-15%
UL-94 failed V-0

Conclusion:

GO YEN CHEMICAL INDUSTRIAL CO., LTD. (GYC GROUP) is a leading and the only manufacturer of flame retardant in Taiwan. We have nearly 40 years of experience developing functional additives and providing a series of Flame Retardant solutions for general plastic and engineering plastic industry.

The result of test shows that adding rate 13-15% of GY-FR-OP74 reach the UL-94 V0 level and has the best performance compared with control sample. It means that the sample stop burning in 10 seconds without dripping on the cotton indicator.

Furthermore, halogen-free GY-FR-OP74 have been designated by famous brand and factories worldwide because they are environment-friendly and meet the regulations in EU and USA.
