GYC-EX-SULF Sulfonic Acid Chain Modifier
The traditional water-based PU typically uses carboxylic acid as its chain extender, exhibiting poor heat resistance, low degree of ionization, and can exist stably only in alkaline environment; hence it is challenging to produce water-based PU with high solid content and high performance. Moreover, carboxylic acid type PU normally generates pungent odors as the volatile amines are usually used for neutralization. By contrast, GYC-EX-SULF, developed by GYC GROUP, can be lead into PU synthetic process to produce sulfonic acid type water-based PU where the hydrophilic groups are strongly acidic & alkaline salts; in addition, as it features great ionization, the cohesion between the emulsion particles can be prevented, resulting from a greater electrostatic repulsion. The water-based PU, consisting of GYC-EX-SULF, features improved properties on its solid content, heat stability, water resistance, adhesion, crystallinity, and can successfully improve the flaws that carboxylic acid type PU obtains; furthermore, since the neutralization is not required during the synthetic process, no pungent odors will be generated, which makes is an ideal choice for paints, coatings, leather coating agent, adhesives, personal care products, biomedical products, etc.

Intro
GO YEN CHEMICAL INDUSTRIAL CO., LTD. (GYC GROUP) is a leading manufacturer of specialty chemicals in Asia. We devote ourselves to supplying products and solutions to our customers worldwide to satisfy and expand the market needs.
Polyurethane (PU) is composed of soft and hard segments. The soft segment is generally a polyether or polyester polyol while the hard one is aromatic or aliphatic compounds. The physical properties of PU can change along with the different composition between the soft and hard segments. PU can be briefly divided into solvent-based and water-based PU while the latter one is more commonly seen in the market as it shows high solid content and great physical properties. Compared with solvent-based PU, water-based one contains lower solid content (below 40%); hence, when water-based PU is used for coatings or adhesives, the thickness and initial bonding strength will show to be poor. In addition, as it has a higher latent heat of evaporation, whereas the organic solvent has a low boiling point, resulting to a high energy consumption. As a result, increasing the solid content of water-based PU and lowering its energy consumption are now becoming a goal to be reached.
